I love making quilts, but we now have quite a few – I won’t say ‘enough’ as I will make more! Plus, we have a vintage Welsh Blanket collection, so no one is going to be cold in our house.
I still want to make quilts, and I’ve certainly got the fabric to make them, so I thought I’d build up a small stock of quilts to give as presents. And what could be nicer than giving a baby quilt?!
This is the Summer Braids pattern by Amy Ball at Coffee Rings Studio. The original quilt is a very beautiful yellow and white combination. Ideally I don’t want to buy new fabric to make these quilts, so I went to my stash. I found I had plenty of blue scraps and fat quarters, and enough sea green Moda Ombre and Fairydust for the background.
I like the mottled effect, I think it looks like old Moroccan tiles.
The back is an Alison Glass quilt which I’ve had for ages. I thought it was perfect for this quilt. I used the darkest edge of the ombre background fabrics for the binding.
Summer Braids is a lovely pattern to make. Amy’s instructions are very clear, and it comes together quickly. I’m so pleased with the result!
