My first make of the year, and I’m in love with this pattern! It’s a very flattering panelled a-line skirt, with a couple of different pocket options. I want to make more casual clothes this year, and this fits the bill perfectly.
It’s a very easy skirt to make, the only thing to remember is to make sure the pockets are lined up. I’ll remember next time! Also there is quite a lot of seam finishing to be done. I bound the seams where they also had the pocket edges, and turned over the others.
I’ve already gone through my stash to plan some more versions of this. I especially like the contrasting pocket bands, and have a black and white floral which would look great with black. Hmm….
I’m taking part in Karen’s 2013 Sewlutions challenge with a pledge to use 12 pieces of fabric from my stash this year. This is number one! I’m also planning to keep a record of how much I spend on sewing, so will add a few stats to each blog post.
Pattern: Simplicity 2152 £9
Fabric: Navy corduroy from ebay, £12.
Time in fabric stash: Exactly 2 years
Other: Zip, thread, bias binding, £4
Total: £25

Very nice skirt, I’ve looked at that pattern myself but am trying not to buy any more until I’ve used some! I do like a pattern that gives you different options, once you’ve got the fit right it means you can make up other versions so quickly
I still think you should buy it…!
this was the first pattern i had! i have mainly made them out of suiting and wear them for work or as casual seperates with a tshirt. great pattern to have
Lucky you, to choose this for your first pattern! Glad to hear it’s been successful for you.
oh i didnt choose it. my friend accidentally bought it twice and gifted it to me to get me started sewing again.
It worked! such a go to pattern. love the slanted pockets of this!
Great skirt and great start to your Sewlution challenge!
what a flattering skirt. it looks better on you than it does on the model
Aw, thanks!
12 pieces from the stash – that’s an awesome commitment!!
I love casual skirts. Great pattern!
I can see why this is your favorite, the skirt looks fabulous on you.
